There are few things about Infowars host Alex Jones that are not controversial.
His opinions, his claims, his accusations all regularly create tidal waves that crash onto the shores of American journalism.
Often his conclusions are stunningly perceptive, and sometimes they get him in trouble.
And as part of that latter category, he’s facing trials soon on defamation claims brought by the parents of Sandy Hook school shooting victims, for his charges that the 2012 attack never happened, or was staged.
Judges declared him in default on the issue of liability for his comments, and coming trials are to determine only damages.
But Jones explained both judges, “in an unprecedented assault on due process and the rule of law,” have told him he cannot discuss the First Amendment, cannot defend his innocence, and cannot point out the rigged elements of the cases.
He explained that Judges Guerra Gamble, a Democrat from Texas, and Barbara Bellis in Connecticut ruled he did not provide sufficient discovery.
So, he said, there rulings include a couple of extreme statements:
Included in the judges’ comments for the upcoming damage portion of the case, they said, “A judgment of this court has found the defendants liable for defamation and HED. As such, their speech was actionable as a matter of law, meaning the First Amendment did not protect their conduct. Thus, the First Amendment is irrelevant to any issues to be decided by the jury.”
And the courts said Jones or his lawyers are expected to argue the trial is unfair, unjust, rigged or worse.
“Any such references are irrelevant and prejudicial, and the court should prevent such statements in front of the jury,” the courts ruled.
Further, the courts ordered he could not argue his innocence.
At Summit News, report confirmed Jones also cannot argue the families are public figures, and the “jury shall be instructed” to find any arguments about Infowars’ journalistic practices to be “established in favor of the Plaintiff.”
The report explained, “In tyrannies, the accused are proclaimed guilty until proven guilty. This is it America; due process under the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments, along with the First Amendment are being systematically destroyed by the judiciary to crush the political establishment’s opposition.”
