After nearly two decades at the Fox News Channel, Chris Wallace, the political analyst and anchor of “Fox News Sunday,” is departing the popular network, making the jump to rival CNN.

“After 18 years, this is my final ‘Fox News Sunday.’ It is the last time, and I say this with real sadness, we will meet like this,” Wallace said on the air.

Shortly after his announcement, CNN announced that Wallace will join CNN+, the left-leaning news outlet’s streaming product launching in early 2022, to host a show featuring interviews with newsmakers “across politics, business, sports and culture.”

“I am thrilled to join CNN+. After decades in broadcast and cable news, I am excited to explore the world of streaming,” Wallace said in a statement. “I look forward to the new freedom and flexibility streaming affords in interviewing major figures across the news landscape – and finding new ways to tell stories.”

Roger Stone, a longtime friend of former President Donald Trump, reacted to the news, saying: “There was actually a time that Chris Wallace was an honest reporter like his father. Today he is just a demented propagandist and congenital liar.”

Fox will feature rotating hosts for “Fox News Sunday” until a permanent host is named.

As WND reported, Wallace came under heavy fire during the presidential campaign of 2020, as he moderated the first debate between Donald Trump and Joe Biden and was accused of personally jumping in to side with Biden.

Wallace repeatedly asked Trump to stop interrupting while the president argued Biden also was interrupting.

“Frankly, you’ve been doing more interrupting,” Wallace said.

When Wallace criticized one of Trump answers regarding Obamacare, Trump told him, “I guess I’m debating you, not him.”

The following day on Twitter, Trump criticized Wallace.

“Chris had a tough night. Two on one was not surprising, but fun,” the president wrote. “Many important points made, like throwing Bernie, AOC PLUS 3, and the rest, to the wolves! Radical Left is dumping Sleepy Joe. Zero Democrat enthusiasm, WEAK Leadership!”

In fact, Wallace had no input when Biden called Trump a “clown” and told him to “shut up, man.”

Trump retweeted several comments about Wallace, including: “If you still can’t figure out why the American public doesn’t trust the media … just rewatch Chris Wallace’s performance tonight.”

Some other online reaction to Wallace’s heading from Fox News to CNN includes:

  • “Translation: His ratings were so bad they were dragging the network down and could no longer be ignored. So he was allowed to resign … before he was fired.”
  • “Off to CNN to replace the disgraced sex offender.”
  • “Yay! I never watched him, yet stopped watching Fox because of people like him. Please take that retarded jackass, Geraldo, with you, Chrissy W.”
