The wife of embattled Democrat Sen. Michael Bennet, of Colorado, has jumped into the argument over defunding police, suggesting that it could be done “quietly.”
By simply reallocating funds from police to other agencies.
The “Defund the Police” movement developed several years ago following the death, at the hands of now-convicted police officers, of George Floyd in Minneapolis. Many Democrats, reacting to rioters’ demands that cops should be held accountable, joined the agenda to eliminate police protection for society at large.
It’s largely been counterproductive, in that where police agencies sustained the biggest defunding, subsequent crime indexes mostly surged.
But now Susan Daggett, the wife of Bennet, in a video obtained by undercover operators, said “quietly” doing that defunding is the way to go.
And she hopes Joe Biden doesn’t run for re-election in 2024.

Daggett, a lawyer who teaches at the University of Denver, said, “Michael would say calling it ‘defund the police’ is not the smartest move at the outset.”

But she said to “quietly” defund the police would be simply to reallocate funds to other agencies.
“We’re talking about it for half a second, and let the temperatures come down, and quietly allocate some funding to mental health, right?” she said.
Just the News reported she said, “I hope not,” about Biden mounting a 2024 campaign.
“”I don’t think so, I mean, I don’t know,” Daggett said. “It would just depend a lot on what the dynamics are.”
And she suggested “the most successful efforts in Washington, D.C., are the ones that you never see on the front page of the paper.”
Bennett was counting on an easy victory this year, but like many other incumbent Democrats is finding out that many of those considered to be in the Democrat voter base are not necessarily there this year.
His GOP challenger, Joe O’Dea, has narrowed the gap dramatically in recent days, and is only a few points behind Bennet. Further, and significantly, Bennet’s support in Democrat-majority Colorado has dropped below 50%. Even 10% of Democrats said they were not supporting Bennet.
