In what likely will be its final hearing, the Democratic Party-controlled committee probing the Capitol riot voted 9-0 to subpoena the testimony of former President Trump.

Vice chairman Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo. – whose role on the panel helped fuel her landslide defeat in the Republican primary – declared that the “vast weight of the evidence so far has shown us that the central cause of Jan. 6 was one man, Donald Trump, who many others followed.”

“None of this would have happened without him. He was personally and substantially involved in all of it,” she insisted.

It was Cheney who submitting the resolution to subpoena Trump, leading to an immediate unanimous vote in favor.

The former president’s allies were not part of the probe, but among their arguments is the fact that Trump had no interest in disrupting the constitutional process led by a majority of House Republicans and key senators of challenging the validity of the 2020 vote in a handful of battleground states.

In any case, the subpoena will be met with legal challenges, and if Republicans win control of the House next month, as expected, the committee likely will be terminated.

On his social media platform Truth Social, Trump asked why the panel waited so long.

“Why didn’t the Unselect Committee ask me to testify months ago?” he asked. “Why did they wait until the very end, the final moments of their last meeting? Because the Committee is a total “’BUST’ that has only served to further divide our Country which, by the way, is doing very badly – A laughing stock all over the World?”

A lawyer who specializes in national security, Bradley P. Moss, said there are “zero circumstances in which Trump would ever voluntarily submit to a subpoena from the 1/6 Committee. None.”

“He’d litigate it to [the U.S. Supreme Court], and absent Dems somehow holding the House next month this will all be over with come next January,” Moss said, according to USA Today.

Further, as Politico reported, if Democrats were hoping the Jan. 6 probe would distract from record inflation, surging violent crime, the illegal immigration crisis and foreign policy failures, they need to adjust their midterm campaign strategy.

Politico reported “criticism of the 139 House Republicans who voted to challenge Trump’s loss on Jan. 6, 2021, has been all but absent from the TV airwaves with 25 days to go before the midterms.”

The crew Thursday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” which has backed the Jan. 6 committee, acknowledged that the immediate concern of most Americans is that they are being crushed by inflation.

The committee on Thursday made much of Trump’s reaction to the U.S. Supreme Court rejecting his election challenge a month after the vote.

The panel put a Dec. 10, 2020, email from a Secret Service agent on the screen: “Just FYI potus is pissed – breaking news – supreme court denied his law suit. He is livid now.”

Constitutional scholar Jonathan Turley, a lifelong Democrat, said it doesn’t make sense for the committee to wait until its last scheduled hearing to subpoena Trump, if as it claims, the former president is central to their investigation.

“It seems a case of planned obsolescence since there is little time or means to produce such testimony in the remaining time,” he wrote on Twitter.

“The delay undermines the credibility of the effort,” said Turley, a professor of law at George Washington University.

Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., former chairman of the House Freedom Caucus, called the subpoena a “political hatchet job read by a political hatchet committee.”

“This committee is illegitimately formed, in violation of House rules, and is organized to search and destroy perceived political enemies,” he tweeted.

Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi rejected Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s Republican selections for the Jan. 6 panel, including Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio.

The only other Republican on the committee, along with the defeated Liz Cheney, is Rep. Adam Kinzinger of Illinois, who did not run for reelection.

EDITOR’S NOTE: With what has been called the “Sovietization” of the Biden administration – including the shocking criminalization of dissent and massive weaponization of the FBI against political opponents – America is being increasingly compared to a third-world or communist dictatorship. Yet America still has one sacred institution that dictatorships from Zimbabwe to communist China don’t have: ELECTIONS. And in reality, there is no reason, despite the regime’s all-out efforts at election rigging, that the tens of millions of decent, right-thinking American voters cannot stop the Biden administration’s ever-expanding madness this November. For that reason, the September issue of WND’s critically acclaimed monthly Whistleblower magazine insightfully covers the most electrifying and important races, illuminates the biggest issues, reveals how the latest federal takeover of elections actually violates the law, and much more. Looking forward to 2024, the issue also highlights why, to quote the chairman of a major think tank, Donald Trump “is the most towering political figure in living memory” and the person “most fit to lead” today’s America. It’s all in “STOPPING THE MADNESS: A MIDTERM ELECTION GUIDE FOR VOTERS WHO LOVE AMERICA.”
