Large numbers of Republicans and independents have wondered just what was going on during the 2016 election season when Democrats were cooking up and talking about their claims that the campaign of Donald Trump was colluding with Russia.
The evidence just didn’t connect for them, and a subsequent years-long investigation by former FBI chief Robert Mueller debunked the allegations.
So the questions have been around ever since – who did what to get that fake news scheme going in the newspapers – and the federal government, and Special Counsel John Durham is reviewing the evidence, already having brought three criminal cases.
But now there’s a stunning new development: Just about as many Democrats as Republicans want an investigation into just what that year’s Democrat candidate, Hillary Clinton, had to do with the collusion conspiracy theory.
The New York Post has reported the number is surprising.
It cited a survey from TechnoMetrica Institute of Policy and Politics in New Jersey recently that asked 1,308 Americans about the burgeoning investigation by Durham, who was tasked with figuring out how that story involving the Steele Dossier and more was created – and specifically who committed what crimes then.
“Nearly three out of four of those polled who are following the story said they think it’s important prosecutors investigate Clinton for her role in the Russiagate scandal along with her top campaign advisers,” the report explained. “That includes two-thirds — or 66 percent — of the Democrats polled who said they have been keeping up with the case.”
The report noted that’s up 20 points from just a few months ago when the same question was asked, and, “indicates the Durham probe may be turning Democratic opinion regarding Clinton and the controversy.”
Ninety-one percent of the Republicans want Clinton, specifically, investigated, and 65% of independents do.
Durham already has obtained one guilty plea in his work, and has filed charges against two more.
Clinton campaign subcontractor Igor Danchenko is accused of lying about the now-debunked Steele Dossier, and Michael Sussman, a former law partner of Clinton campaign general counsel Mark Elias, was accused of lying.
Reports released in just the last few days have revealed the 2016 campaign for Clinton “paid a web firm to ‘infiltrate’ servers at Trump Towers and the White House to try to tie Trump to Russia,” the report said.
And former Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe says there’s evidence enough in the investigation to indict multiple individuals involved.
The Post report noted, too, that Americans are wanting the family of Joe Biden to be reviewed more carefully.
“More than two-thirds, or 68 percent, of respondents said they think it’s important that the president’s son, Hunter Biden, and brother Jimmy Biden are walled off from any business involving the administration. That includes communicating with the president and his aides about policy proposals or taking any government jobs or contracts, the majority told pollsters,” the report said.
Seventy-one percent of Democrats and Republicans “agreed that the president’s relatives should be kept at arm’s length,” the report said.
Hunter Biden already has confirmed he’s under federal tax fraud investigation.
And the poll showed 46% of Americans think the nation’s legacy media outlets have done only fair to poor reporting on Biden and his family’s alleged influence-peddling and other corruption, the report said.
Sixty-nine percent of the GOP and 54% of independents give the media poor grades. But 53% of Democrats like the media’s work on the Biden family scandals. One survey following the 2020 presidential race, by Media Research Center, showed that had the media not suppressed accurate – and negative – reporting about the Biden family just before the election, President Trump would now be in the White House.
