It’s time for the Republican Party to solve the problem created by Rep. Liz Cheney, of Wyoming, and Adam Kinzinger, of Illinois, a GOP coalition is charging.
The two previously voted to impeach President Trump, and this week joined with Democrats in portraying those who rioted at the Capitol on Jan. 6 as terrorists – who were supporting Trump.
The Washington Examiner explains that members of the GOP’s Freedom Caucus Thursday asked House Minority Leader, who could be House speaker as early as early 2023, to boot Kinzinger and Cheney from the House Republican Conference.
Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., explained to the Examiner that having the two anti-Trumpers in the conference, which is supposed to be an organization where Republican can plan their political strategy, is “antithetical” to its purpose “because they sit in the select committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol,” the report said.
They have “professed that they want to take out the minority leader and then they want to go join the Democrats on a witch hunt through the Republican Party,” Biggs charged.
“We’ve got two members… of our party who have switched teams,” explained Rep. Ralph Norman, R-S.C.
“What if you had a football game and two players just all of a sudden kept the same uniform but started playing for the other team. Something has got to be done.”
A spokesperson for Cheney described the situation as a “battle” for the soul of the GOP.
She claimed concerns over fraud in the 2020 presidential race constitute the “Big Lie,” despite evidence of multiple situations that could have resulted in fraud, or worse.
Two factors are not in doubt: First that state officials in violation of the Constitution arbitrarily changed state election rules during the 2020 count, since the Constitution only allows lawmakers to do that, and leftist Mark Zuckerberg handed out some $350 million, mostly to leftist county and state election officials, to help them run the elections.
Other Republicans at a press conference announcing the demands included Reps. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., Matt Rosendale, R-Mont., and Jody Hice, R-Ga.
The Examiner explained “the call for two members to be expelled from the conference is a significant step in the continuing fight over whether Trump should be the future of the GOP. And the hostile tone taken in pressuring McCarthy, R-Calif., to cede to their demands underscores a growing impatience with leadership from some of the further right members of the party.”
The GOP trails the Democrat Party in the House by only a handful of votes, and is expected to take the majority during midterm elections held late next year.
Cheney and Kinzinger both were invited by Pelosi to be on her special committee to investigate the Jan. 6 events when she arbitrarily rejected two other Republicans selected by McCarthy.
They quickly aligned themselves with Democrats, emphasizing the one-sidedness of the committee.
Cheney immediately put the blame for Jan. 6 on President Trump, despite the hearing only just beginning to hear the evidence.
“We must know what happened here at the Capitol. We must also know what happened every minute of that day in the White House – every phone call, every conversation, every meeting leading up to, during, and after the attack,” she charged.
The violence developed when a few hundred Trump supporters, with the possibility of Trump critics being embedded in the crowd, invaded the building and vandalized it. It was the day Congress was voting to endorse the still-suspect results of the 2020 presidential election and award the White House to Joe Biden.
Audits of those results still are ongoing, with evidence suggesting that there may have been malfeasance enough to flip the results from Trump to Biden even though multiple fact-checkers have stated over and over that there was no fraud, no wrongdoing, and no mistakes in the count.
Cheney said, “We cannot leave the violence of January 6th – and its causes – uninvestigated. The American people deserve the full and open testimony of every person with knowledge of the planning and preparation for January 6th.”
She described the events as a “cancer” on America, and warned the nation “will face the threat of more violence in the months to come, and another January 6th every four years.”
Kinzinger, who got choked up over the momentous event in which he was participating, once again at the invitation of the Democrat leader, call the events a “coup.”
“I want to know what happened that day, but more importantly, I want all Americans to be able to trust the work this committee does and get the facts out there, free of conspiracy,” he said.
