House GOP announces plan to punish China amid Biden's inaction

As evidence mounts that a cover-up by the Chinese communist regime allowed the COVID-19 outbreak to become a global pandemic, killing an estimated 3.8 million people, House Republicans are pushing for formal action against Beijing.

Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy said in an open letter to the House GOP conference on Monday that Republicans must act because House Democrats and the White House “have no plan to hold China accountable,” Breitbart News reported.

Proposing “eight pillars,” including removing the Olympic Games from Beijing, he said Biden “has failed to utilize any of his broad powers to hold China accountable and has willingly given up valuable leverage to force constructive change at the WHO.”

But House Republicans, he said, “have and will continue to fight.”

The eight pillars:

  1. Declassify intelligence related to the origins of COVID-19
  2. Ban gain-of-function research in China and with China
  3. Ban National Institutes of Health funding to any “Malevolent Foreign Governments”
  4. “Overhaul” of World Health Organization and a counterintelligence investigation into its actions
  5. Demand Biden continue investigations and utilize “existing authorities” to determine the origin of the coronavirus pandemic
  6. Sanctions and visa restrictions on those responsible for covering up the pandemic
  7. Formally waive China’s sovereign immunity so Americans who lost loved ones to coronavirus can sue in federal court over wrongful death
  8. Remove the Winter Olympics from China.

Biden: No ‘threats or ultimatums’

On Sunday, National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said the Biden administration is not “going to issue threats or ultimatums” to hold China accountable regarding the origins and transmission of COVID-19.

“And if it turns out that China refuses to live up to its international obligations, we will have to consider our responses at that point, and we will do so in concert with allies and partners,” he told CNN.

Asked to react to Sullivan’s remarks, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo argued Monday that China has failed to live up to its obligations for the past year.

“We know precisely about the cover-up. There are so many things we could do,” he told Fox News’ Martha MacCallum.

He mentioned boycotting the Olympics as one action.

“The list of things we could do, imposing real costs on the Chinese Communist Party … so this doesn’t have to happen again … is long, and the time to act is certainly now,” he said.

Fauci acting as a Democratic activist

In an interview Monday morning, Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., charged that Biden’s coronavirus adviser, Dr. Anthony Fauci, “is not acting as a scientist or a doctor anymore.”

“He’s acting as a Democratic Party activist in a white lab coat,” said Cotton, who has insisted for the past year, amid ridicule from his critics, that the lab-leak theory is plausible.

“Why doesn’t he tell us what science — what data backs up the Biden administration’s stupid mask mandate for airports and airplanes? I mean, are you more likely to get the coronavirus at an airport than you are a shopping mall or an airplane with its massive filtration systems?” Cotton told “Fox & Friends.”

“It is really necessary to kick off a family with an autistic child who can’t wear a mask peacefully for an entire airplane?” Cotton asked, referring to a recent incident. “Does Dr. Fauci have evidence to support that from the data and the science?”
