The chairman of the Texas Republican Party, Allen West, has joined the Gab social media platform only days after “liberal subversives” in the state party voted to abandon it.
The controversy has been brewing since Republican Gov. Greg Abbot condemned Gab with charges that never were explained.
He said, “Anti-Semitic platforms like Gab have no place in Texas, and certainly do not represent Texas values.”
Gab founder Andrew Torba, a Christian, reacted on his platform to the governor’s comments in a video posted on Twitter.
“Folks, the level of attack we are under right now in this spiritual war has never been greater,” Torba said. “We are facing media smears, literal demon hackers, banks banning us, and now the Governor of Texas for some reason smearing our community of millions of people.”
WND has asked the governor’s office by telephone and email multiple times for comment, but has gotten no response. There also has been no response from GOP party offices.
Now, in a new posting, Torba said his company is “thrilled to welcome Texas GOP Chairman Allen West to the Gab community! Chairman West joins Gab just days after the liberal subversives who have invaded the Texas GOP voted in favor of deplatforming themselves from Gab amidst a wave of censorship from Big Tech platforms.”
Torba noted the state party voted to delete its account with Gab after Abbott’s “false” claims.
“The vote of 35-25 in favor of deleting the Gab account shows that the Texas GOP has an ongoing civil war in the party which is reflective of a much broader situation that is unfolding at the national level in the Republican party,” he said.
West’s first post was on “the demon of critical race theory that is infecting our schools, culture, and government. Chairman West likely recognizes that this demon is infecting the Republican Party of Texas and that it must be stopped at all costs.”
Torba added: “The purpose of education is to prepare our children to be critical thinkers and productive members of our society by providing them with tools for success. It should not be the goal of our educational system to become a center for indoctrination. However, that is exactly what Critical Race Theory is all about. When reading the Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx, you find that one of the tenets of Marxism is State control of education. For Marx it was all about fomenting class division and warfare.
“Critical Race Theory introduces race to this strategy. Marxism was focused on the destruction of the individual, and advancing the idea of collectivism. Critical Race Theory does exactly that. It redefines us based upon race rather than our individuality. It declares that America is, always has been, and always will be a racist country. It erodes the fundamental premise of America, namely, equality of opportunity, and replaces it with equity, to be achieved by equality of outcomes,” he wrote.
The party’s vice-chairman, Cat Parks, demanded the party drop its Gab account.
When Abbott made his comment, he was flanked by state Reps. Phil King and Craig Goldman, citing the lawmakers’ work on a bill.
The Federalist noted it’s unclear which legislation Abbott was referencing, although Goldman recently introduced a bill discussing the Texas Holocaust and Genocide Advisory Committee. In the video, Abbott is shown sitting near an Israeli flag.
Torba said Gab is not an anti-Semitic platform.
“We protect the political speech of all Americans, regardless of viewpoint, because in this age of cancel culture nobody else will. That means unpopular viewpoints may be found on the site,” he said.
“There are many Jewish Gab users and customers, whose lawful speech we protect with just as much zeal as we would protect the lawful speech of any person of any faith, ethnicity, or creed.”
