It was a remote and controlling government that was demanding new taxes – on tea and more – and insisting on a subservience that included providing housing and food for an occupying force that triggered the famed Boston Tea Party.
But those colonists didn’t stop there. Next, in September of 1774, representatives from 12 of America’s original 13 colonies met in the First Continental Congress in Philadelphia’s Carpenters’ Hall, and they insisted that the king of England back off, enforcing their demands with a boycott of British trade and goods.
And then, forced to meet yet again, they launched the beginnings of a military and eventually, on July 4, 1776, declared independence from Britain.
Is it time now for a Third Continental Congress?
Organizers of an event scheduled for July 5-6 at the visitors center at Independence Hall in Philadelphia say it is.
Expressing the sentiment perhaps felt by many in America today, with a Washington government demanding control of elections, more taxes, more spending, more accommodations to America’s enemies, an extremist agenda for public school children, multiple attacks on people of faith, and more, they have posted their message online:
“The time has come, given the total leftist takeover if not stranglehold on the nation, to again declare independence from the despots and tyrants who now have seized, through fraudulent elections and other nefarious means, control [of] our body politic.”
They quote from the original Declaration of Independence, which states, “When in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume, among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the laws of nature and natures God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.”
Lawyer Larry Klayman, founder of FreedomWatchUSA, is promoting the events, explaining, “The majority of citizens in this country are no longer represented by those who claim to govern, and I mean both Democrats and Republicans, who like the money changers at the Temple in ancient Jerusalem spend their time and energy filling their own coffers and acquiring more power, but who forsake We the People for their own greedy and self-serving designs.”
Today, he charged, “The nation no longer has any functioning system of justice, our borders are left wide open to allow hordes of illegal aliens who will be permitted to vote, some of whom also carry deadly COVID-19 illness, into our midst.”
He said special interest radicals, from Marxists to feminists, are promoting a “hatred” of those who “believe in the vision and creation of our Founding Fathers.”
Invited speakers including Sheriff Joe Arpaio, Ambassador Alan L. Keyes, Armstrong Williams, Ammon and Ryan Bundy, the Gold Star parents of those who were murdered at Benghazi and Extortion 17, military veterans, retired police, radio talk shows hosts such as Andrea Kaye, Sam Malone and Charles Butler and others.
They have experienced, from America’s present government, being lied to, left behind, surveilled, threatened and “terrorized,” and will give evidence “of the need to immediately restore, with peaceful and legal means, the vision and creation of our Founding Fathers,” the conference founders explained.
“The mission is to restore our God-given rights to be free of government corruption and tyranny,” the announcement confirmed.
A proposed declaration includes that the current government is bankrupting the nation with “huge government expenditures,” criticisms of bailouts and special perks to certain classes, a recitation of the faults of the judiciary, socialism and opposition to ongoing attacks on police.
Other issues of concern include fraudulent elections, mass surveillance, illegal immigration, COVID-19 mandates, the cancel culture and subversion of education with “racist policies.”
The proposal states, “Therefore We, the representatives of The Third Continental Congress … declare that the People of the Untied States of America be absolved from any allegiance to the tyrannical establishment and continuance of the current and corrupt United States governing body, and of right ought to be free and independent once again.”
It states, “And for the support of this declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence under our Creator, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.”
