Leftists and other progressives have lost their cool on the completion of Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter.
“It’s like the gates of hell opened on this site tonight,” claimed tech columnist Taylor Lorenz on social media.
Fox News reported Musk, the noted billionaire of SpaceX and Tesla fame, immediately fired several top executives, including CEO Parag Agrawal, CFO Ned Segal and Vijaya Gadde, the chief of legal policy, trust and safety.
Musk accused them of misleading him – and other investors – over the number of fake accounts on the platform, Fox reported a source confirmed.
Fox reported, “Co-Host of Breaking Points Saagar Enjeti posted emoji hands waving ‘bye’ while retweeting a post of his from April where he had written that, ‘Vijaya Gadde, the top censorship advocate at Twitter who famously gaslit the world on Joe Rogan’s podcast and censored the Hunter Biden laptop story, is very upset about the @elonmusk takeover.'”
Reports were that President Trump, who was permanently banned by the company over his concerns about the integrity of the 2020 election, would be allowed to return, if he chose.
His concerns actually now have been documented. At least two factors are considered by polling and analysts to have likely taken away his election victory and given it to Joe Biden. Those would be Mark Zuckerberg’s $400 million plus passed through foundations to local elections officials who often used it to recruit voters in Democrat districts.
The second is the FBI’s interference in the election. The bureau lobbied social media companies to suppress accurate, but very damaging, information about the Biden family just days before the election.
Additionally, many states and jurisdictions simply ignored their own state laws on mail-in ballots and such.
The focal point of the fight over Twitter has been the company’s previous insistence on censoring messages it, or the Biden administration, disliked.
Musk has talked about returning free speech to the site, calling for a high-tech community forum where topics can be discussed.
Critics of Musk and his free speech plans were immediately obvious. “Uproxx writer Mike Redmond wrote, ‘I don’t think any of us are prepared for how quickly this whole site is about to go down. It’s a miracle flames aren’t shooting out of it already,'” Fox reported.
And writer Dylan Reeve claimed, “Yay, manbaby with poor impulse control and edgelord tendencies has the helm. Sweet.”
Ben Collins, identified by Fox as NBC News “disinformation” reporter, claimed, “I would be so happy if I’m wrong. But the [sic] all the red lights are flashing here.”
Fox reported, “Disgraced CBS anchor Dan Rather used famous lyrics by punk band The Clash to express wariness about Twitter’s future as a platform, writing, ‘With this Twitter thing maybe changing considerably. a question I am asking: Should I stay or should I go now? If I go, there will be trouble And if I stay it will be double So come on and let me know Should I stay or should I go?'”
On the platform, “LibsofTikTok appeared to joke that now the tables have turned, and Musk is the one who can hold left-wing accounts for misinformation, or in this case, failing to update their bios quickly enough,” Fox explained.
“Hey @elonmusk, Parag is spreading misinformation in his Twitter bio and pretending he’s the CEO of your company,” the account tweeted.
George Washington University law professor and constitutional expert Jonathan Turley said, “As expected, this morning media figures are in full panic at the thought that one social media platform may restore free speech protections after years of biased and aggressive censorship.”
He wrote, “Agrawal and Gadde personified the censorship culture at Twitter, figures who were unabashedly opposed to traditional views of free speech and viewpoint diversity. Not long after taking over, Agrawal pledged to regulate content as ‘reflective of things that we believe lead to a healthier public conversation.'”
In fact, Agrawal said the company must focus on “who can be heard.”
“I have long admitted to being an ‘internet originalist,’ someone who viewed the internet as the greatest development for free speech since the invention of the printing press. However, the rapid erosion of free speech values – from our Congress to our campuses – has been alarming. Led by President Joe Biden, Democratic leaders and media figures have demanded corporate censorship and even state censorship to curtail opposing views on issues ranging from climate change to election integrity to public health to gender identity. The Washington Post’s Max Boot, for example, declared, ‘For democracy to survive, we need more content moderation, not less.'”
Turley noted, “Many of those same figures are now apoplectic at the thought that others may be able to express dissenting views on subjects ranging from climate change to election regulations to gender identity.”
He said, “The freak out from the Musk-phobic was triggered by the prospect of a single social media company offering greater free speech protections. Just one. However, they know that the effort to control political and social speech will be lost if people have an alternative. These companies are only able to sell censorship because they have largely been able to bar free speech competitors. Now there may be an alternative.”
The Daily Mail reported Musk’s takeover, then said, “His next move will be to restore users who have been handed lifetime bans from the platform – including former US president Donald Trump. ”
