House Democrats vote down plan to sanction Islamic terrorists

There’s a stunning new perspective on terrorism that has appeared in the U.S., where majority Democrats voted along party lines not to advance a bill that would have imposed sanctions on those supporting the violence.

Fox News said a proposal was made to sanction financial supporters of Hamas, the terror group that for more than a week has been lobbing rockets at Israel, trying to kill Jews there.

But Democrats, on a 217-209 party line vote, shut it down.

The plan was the Palestinian International Terrorism Support Prevention Act, introduced by Rep. Brian Mast, R-Fla. It had passed in the House last year but died in the Senate.

This year, it was introduced to “impose sanctions on foreign entities known to have provided financial assistance to Hamas,” the report said.

Mast had pleaded for help, saying, “Under my bill the United States will sanction these groups that are supporting terrorism. Or if we do not pass this bill, we will not stand together to sanction these groups that are enabling this terrorism.”

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., had advocated for the plan, explain, “The ongoing rocket attacks against Israeli civilians show why America must unequivocally support Israel, condemn Hamas, and sanction those who fund terrorism.”

At Longtime PJMedia writer Rick Moran, whose work also has appeared in the Washington Times, explained the bill also would have targeted supporters of Palestinian Islamic Jihad, which like Hamas, is a terror group so designated by the State Department.

“Democrats may very well have refused to bring up them measure because so many of their members are pro-Hamas and the Democratic leadership in the House didn’t want to embarrassment of betraying a close ally in the middle of a war,” he explained.

In fact, IJR reported Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., has spoken in front of a banner promoting Neturei Karta, an extremist sect that believes Israel must be destroyed, Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., has defended the terror attacks on Israeli civilians and described Israel’s defense as the real terror, and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, D-N.Y., has claimed Israel is an apartheid state.

Further, Rep. Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass., has claimed Israel is in fact a military occupation of Palestine.

PJMedia noted, “It should also be noted that Hamas’ number one sponsor, Iran, is sitting across the table from U.S. representatives trying to negotiate a return by the Biden administration to the nuclear agreement of 2015. If successful, Iran would be in line to get billions in frozen assets and tens of billions in sanctions relief. How much of that money will be going to support Hamas terror activities? Biden recognizes the danger but is so eager for a deal that he is going forward with negotiations.”
