Republican lawmakers have delivered praise for strikes ordered by President Donald Trump on ISIS extremists and terrorists in Nigeria.
Trump long has expressed concern about the terrorists’ slaughter of Christians in that nation, and ordered strikes on Christmas Day that hit at the network of hate there.
“Decisive” was how several GOP lawmakers described the move.
Rep. Bill Huizenga, R-Mich., said, “Today, in coordination with the Nigerian government, President Trump and the U.S. Military took decisive action to protect Christians from radical Islamists in Nigeria. The Congressional Delegation I led to Nigeria this past weekend provided insight that some attitudes inside the Nigerian Government are beginning to turn in favor of protecting Christians — in addition to taking actions against those terrorizing Christians and moderate Muslims. As I have said previously, the U.S. was too late in Rwanda and too late in South Sudan. This strike demonstrates the United States is taking the targeted killings in Nigeria seriously.”

Sen. Ted Budd, R-N.C., added, “ISIS is responsible for the deaths of thousands of Christians & religious minorities in Nigeria. @POTUS’s decisive strikes will save lives & protect religious freedom. May God bless our brave men & women in uniform.”

And Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., said, “I commend President Trump, Secretary Hegseth, and our brave troops for these strikes against bloodthirsty ISIS savages who are not only persecuting Christians, but also have killed many Americans.”

The Hill reported Rep. Riley Moore, R-W.Va., added, “President Trump has been clear that the killing of Christians in Nigeria must end. As I stated at the outset: Do not test President Trump’s resolved in this matter. Tonight’s strike in coordination with the Nigerian government is just the first step to ending the slaughter of Christians and the security crisis affecting all Nigerians.”
Rep. Don Bacon, R-Neb., charged that ISIS was guilty of “conducting genocide against Christians.”
WND reported when the strikes were confirmed that Trump said, “Tonight, at my direction as Commander in Chief, the United States launched a powerful and deadly strike against ISIS Terrorist Scum in Northwest Nigeria, who have been targeting and viciously killing, primarily, innocent Christians, at levels not seen for many years, and even Centuries! I have previously warned these Terrorists that if they did not stop the slaughtering of Christians, there would be hell to pay, and tonight, there was.
“The Department of War executed numerous perfect strikes, as only the United States is capable of doing. Under my leadership, our Country will not allow Radical Islamic Terrorism to prosper. May God Bless our Military, and MERRY CHRISTMAS to all, including the dead Terrorists, of which there will be many more if their slaughter of Christians continues.”
Several weeks ago Trump threatened “guns a-blazing” if the terrorism continued.
“Christianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria. Thousands and thousands of Christians are being killed,” Trump said in November. “Radical Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter. I am hereby making Nigeria a country of particular concern, that’s a legal definition.
“When the Christians or any such group is slaughtered like is happening in Nigeria – 3,100 vs. 4,476 worldwide, what horrible numbers – something has to be done.”
