It was not that long ago when noted columnist Miranda Devine at the New York Post cited Democrats for “inviting” violence.
This came at the pinnacle of the race-infused firestorm by Black Lives Matter following the death of George Floyd.
She said, then, that it was “all rage with no solutions:” but that Democrats like Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers and even Joe Biden “rushed” out “grievance-mongering” statements.
About the same time, Townhall columnist Justin Haskins noted, “Protests, riots, looting, vandalism, and violence have gripped cities across the country for months.”
That was when a mob confronted and threatened Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky. It was “just one event in a long list of violent attacks waged by leftists over the past three months.”
But then, he wrote, “Rather than strongly condemn the anarchy and chaos in cities across the country, members of the Democratic Party — which, remember, runs most of the cities suffering from the riots — are shamelessly trying to take advantage of this madness and stoke fears over the election that could eventually tear the country apart.”
More recently, the New York Post documented charges that Sen. Chuck Schumer had been “whipping up a rally” with verbal threats to members of the Supreme Court.
Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., turned to fighting language over the Dobbs abortion ruling, saying, “We need action.”
Now there’s a warning to conservatives in a report in Revolver News that it could be violence that Democrats are trying to provoke.
“Remember Christmas 2020? Donald Trump was still president, COVID vaccines were just rolling out, and most importantly, Americans across the political spectrum were engaged in a bitter dispute over the results of the November election,” the report from Charlie Kirk, of Turning Point USA, explained. “Liberal America, despite ostensibly winning the presidential election, agonized over the prospect of four more years of Trump. Democrats cared little about how votes were cast or counted, they wanted the orange man gone, and that was it.”
Conservatives, meanwhile, had concerns about the election, Joe Biden, and more. After all, they had seen states breaking their own election laws in support of Biden.
“While it is true that a few irresponsible actors made some wild and false accusations about the 2020 election, most conservatives’ concerns were quite valid. Literally everything about the election was unprecedented and warranted more scrutiny at the legal level. And so throughout November and December, peaceful rallies took place across the country, with attendees promising to raise their voices in unison to let their leaders know they weren’t happy with how their elections were managed.”
Then the mob got loose at the Capitol.
“Don’t get me wrong, the left-wing media has greatly exaggerated and lied about what happened that day. 99.9% of the Trump supporters who came to Washington on January 6 acted completely peaceful and lawful. But the tiny mob that ran into the building was ruthlessly exploited by the left-wing media to demonize and criminalize Trump supporters as ‘traitors’ and ‘domestic violent extremists.'”
Since then Biden “has used the events of that day as a pretext to massively crack down on any dissenting politics in America, using the federal government’s post-9/11 domestic surveillance laws to investigate, harass, and seize personal materials from the president’s inner circle. Meanwhile, the January 6th ‘select committee’ holds one-sided public show trials more concerned with TV ratings and clicks than an honest and robust debate about what actually happened that day,” he wrote.
That’s all in pursuit of preventing another Trump candidacy, and he said that brings us to the present.
“The FBI raid on Donald Trump’s home in Mar-a-Lago, allegedly to collect confidential records, has rightfully alarmed and outraged many Americans. I’m mad, and if you’re reading this, you’re probably pretty mad too. The Rubicon has been crossed. We will fight peacefully, lawfully, and in the court of law and public opinion,” he said.
But he said this is what conservatives and Republicans must focus on: “Democrats and their toadies in the media are 100% trying to bait Trump supporters into doing something stupid.”
He continued, “Not only are they trying to bait you, but they also have active feds trying to whip up violence, both on social media and in real life. … Don’t fall for these traps. Not only is it wrong morally, it’s strategically stupid.”
He said the Democrats still have the option of indicting and arresting Trump, and the sight of him in cuffs “would be horrifying.”
And enraging.
But he said, “violence will actively aid the left’s mission to paint Trump supporters as terrorists and even further escalate the surveillance and persecution of the political right in America.”
WND had reported only hours earlier that U.S. Sen Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., warned there could be “riots” over the double standard that is being used against President Trump if he actually is prosecuted.
The Washington Times reports the senator explained, “If there is a prosecution of Donald Trump for mishandling classified documents after the Clinton debacle which you presided over, and did a hell of a good job, there will be riots in the streets.”
He was addressing former Congressman Trey Gowdy on his “Sunday Night in America” show on Fox News.
At issue is an FBI case by partisan operatives who previously advocated for the false “Russia collusion” narrative from 2016 in which they are investigating Trump for apparently taking some documents with him when he left the White House.
They’ve claimed there are government secrets there. Trump has explained he ordered those documents he possessed to be declassified. And court precedents suggest that if they documents are in the possession of a former president, they are presumed to be his property.
Gowdy presided over the House Select Committee on Benghazi years ago – and it was at that time Hillary Clinton, then secretary of State, was found to have sent classified government documents to an unsecure private email server.
There was no prosecution over that offense.
