Say it ain’t Zo! Muslim Mamdani elected New York City mayor

Zohran Mamdani

Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic Socialist who stormed onto the national political scene in recent months, was elected mayor of New York City Tuesday night, defeating Independent Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa.

He will become the Big Apple’s first-ever Muslim mayor, as well as its first South Asian mayor and the youngest city chief in more than a century.

He collected more than 50% of the vote, compared to 41.2% for former Gov. Cuomo and 7.1% for Sliwa, the founder of the Guardian Angels.

“They actually did it. They elected a communist,” said journalist Benny Johnson. “New York is screwed.”
