World Health Organization says masks STILL needed

After months of business shutdowns, job losses, social isolation, mask-wearing mandates and eventually tens of millions of people getting vaccinated against COVID-19, the World Health Organization is warning that the progress isn’t enough.

CNBC reported WHO now is insisting that fully vaccinated people keep wearing masks and staying away from other people, because of the “contagious Delta variant.”

“People cannot feel safe just because they had the two doses. They still need to protect themselves,” Mariangela Simao, said in the report.

Simao is an assistant director-general for access to medicines and health products for WHO.

“Vaccine alone won’t stop community transmission. People need to continue to use masks consistently, be in ventilated spaces, hand hygiene … the physical distance, avoid crowding. This still continues to be extremely important, even if you’re vaccinated when you have a community transmission ongoing.”

In the United States, reports of new cases have been plunging and the virus that apparently got its start in and escaped from China has been reported in fewer than 12,000 new cases per day recently.

It has claimed more than 600,000 lives so far.

But the U.S. largely has lifted mask mandates and some social distancing requirements as COVID’s spread slowed and fell.

Now WHO is telling fully vaccinated people to “play it safe” because of variants of the virus.

Bruce Aylward, an advisor for WHO, warned,” You can reduce some measures and different countries have different recommendations in that regard. But there’s still the need for caution.”

WHO claims the variant first was found in India but has been identified so far in 92 countries.

President Joe Biden reportedly said he has concerns about the problem.

Fox News said probably about 54% of the U.S. population has gotten as least the first dose of the vaccine.

The Gateway Pundit reported, “The recommendation comes weeks after the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said vaccinated people can go most places without masks. However, federal mandates remain on airplanes, for example.”

It continued, “Authoritarians are already using the ‘Delta’ variant to justify a new round of lockdowns and mandates. The Australian city of Sydney just went into a two-week hard lockdown after more than 80 new cases of the ‘Delta’ variant of Covid-19 were confirmed.”
