The state of Washington has turned aggressive in its politically correct war against ivermectin as a treatment for COVID-19, suspending the license of a physicians assistant who prescribed it for several patients.
The action comes despite the fact that the National Institutes of Health features ivermectin on its website as a treatment for COVID-19.
In fact, ivermectin is the second drug listed – under the highly touted, expensive COVID-19 drug with many side effects, remdesivir – on an NIH page titled “Antiviral Agents That Are Approved or Under Evaluation for the Treatment of COVID-19.”
Ivermectin has not been approved by the FDA as a COVID-19 treatment. But it is approved by the FDA for other treatments and has been successfully used off-label for COVID-19 patients. From 10% to 20% of all prescribed drugs are used off-label. Ivermectin has been shown to be effective in an least 65 controlled studies and 32 randomized controlled trials as a preventative and early- and late-stage treatment. Studies have demonstrated its ability to inhibit the replication of SARS-CoV-2 as well as its strong anti-inflammatory properties.
Despite the facts, doctors are being barred from providing it to patients.
In fact, a report at the American Thinker explains how Scott C. Miller had his license suspended by the Washington Medical Commission for trying to let his patients use it.
The post cites a report from Andrea Salcedo of the Washington Post. Her article on Miller “is framed to make it appear as though ivermectin will kill people,” the American Thinker reported.
But the points it includes are that ivermectin is an anti-parasite drug, “although she concedes that it works on humans,” that Miller supports its use, and he prescribed it for some “very sick” people, some of whom ended up dying despite any treatment.
The state commission earlier had announced it was alleging Miller’s treatment “fell below the standard of care” after he promoted ivermectin as a treatment.
The Washington Post described the situation, “Miller, who obtained his state physician assistant license in 2013, has publicly rallied against masks. At a May school board meeting in Camas, Wash., a maskless Miller told the audience that he had written mask exemptions so his children could attend school without face coverings, the medical commission found. He also said they had traveled without wearing a mask at the airport or on the plane.”
The American Thinker post notes that the Post “makes no mention of ivermectin’s success in India,” where using it was “associated with a 73% reduction of SARS-CoV-2 infection…”
A social media post pointed out how insurance companies are refusing to pay for “an effective medicine in a pandemic.”

WND’s report on the NIH endorsement of ivermectin points out that another agent, remdesivir, can cause severe renal failure and liver damage.
But it describes ivermectin as being “generally well tolerated.”
Ivermectin, whose inventors won a Nobel Prize, has a better safety record than several vitamins, with an average of only 160 adverse events reported every year. It has been safely administered several billion times around the world, virtually eradicating diseases such as river blindness in Africa.
The side effects observed, according to the NIH, include “dizziness”; “pruritis,” which is an irritating sensation that creates an urge to scratch; nausea and diarrhea. The NIH said unspecified “neurological” adverse effects have been seen in the treatment of parasitic disease, but it’s unclear if they are connected to the drug or to the underlying conditions.
