The Medical Center at Vanderbilt University, which has come under criticism for allegedly performing unethical transgender surgeries on minors, is defending itself by saying parents have approved of what its surgeons have done.
Fox News explained the statement followed calls from Tennessee lawmakers for an investigation of the clinic.
The criticism came from Matt Walsh, who released a series of social-media statements.
BREAKING: My team and I have been investigating the transgender clinic at Vanderbilt here in Nashville. Vanderbilt drugs, chemically castrates, and performs double mastectomies on minors. But it gets worse. Here is what we found. Let’s start at the beginning.

Vanderbilt opened its trans clinic in 2018. During a lecture the same year, Dr. Shayne Taylor explained how she convinced Nashville to get into the gender transition game. She emphasized that it’s a “big money maker,” especially because the surgeries require a lot of “follow ups” pic.twitter.com/zedM7HBCBe

Walsh reacted to the medical facility’s statement, with, “They do not specifically deny anything in my report. Their only defense for drugging and mutilating kids is that their parents allegedly consent to it.”
Vanderbilt has issued a statement in response to our investigation. They do not specifically deny anything in my report. Their only defense for drugging and mutilating kids is that their parents allegedly consent to it. That’s all the confirmation you need.

Fox reported that the school’s statement said, “VUMC requires parental consent to treat a minor patient who is to be seen for issues related to transgender care and never refuses parental involvement in the care of transgender youth who are under age 18. Our policies allow employees to decline to participate in care they find morally objectionable and do not permit discrimination against employees who choose to do so. This includes employees whose personal or religious beliefs do not support gender-affirming care for transgender persons.”
A list of leaders, including Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee and U.S. Sen. Marsha Blackburn had called for an investigation after Walsh’s reporting about how Vanderbilt drugs, “chemically castrates and performs double mastectomies on minors.”
One of Walsh’s reports included a video of Shayne Taylor, of Vanderbilt, in a 2018 speech apparently discussing “top surgery” for patients.
She said, at the time, “Some of our VUMC financial folks in October of 2016 put down some costs of how much money we think each patient would bring in. And this is only including top surgery, this isn’t including any bottom surgery, and it’s a lot of money.”
The report noted the web page for the school’s transgender pediatric clinic was offline, as was the page for its “gender-affirming surgery” offerings.
But Lee said, “The ‘pediatric transgender clinic’ at Vanderbilt University Medical Center [VUMC] raises serious moral, ethical and legal concerns. We should not allow permanent, life-altering decisions that hurt children or policies that suppress religious liberties, all for the purpose of financial gain. We have to protect Tennessee children, and this warrants a thorough investigation.”
